The Alton Police Department exists to professionally serve those who live in or visit the City of Alton, Illinois. The men and women of the Alton Police Department are committed to enhancing the quality of life in our community, maintaining Alton as a safe place to raise a family while proactively addressing community issues. The Department has a long, proud tradition of being a part of the community. As the City grows we strive to maintain a "small town feel" by being responsive to the changing needs of the people.

The Mission of the Alton Police Department is to work in partnership with our community to fight crime and the fear of crime in a community oriented manner of service to our citizens. Our priority is to improve the quality of life for all of our citizens by serving with courtesy and concern with emphasis on integrity and fairness.
